Yankees swipe new third base option from AL foe

6 hours ago 2

The New York Yankees recognize that any opportunity to bring in a potential third baseman is worth seizing at this point.

On Sunday, the Yankees claimed CJ Alexander off waivers from the Athletics, who designated him for assignment three days ago.

New York then optioned Alexander to Triple-A, where he can get acclimated to the organization.

Right now, Jazz Chisholm is playing third base in the majors, but he may eventually move back to second base if DJ LeMahieu doesn't start hitting.

The Yankees have also used the likes of Oswald Peraza and Pablo Reyes at third base to very little effect.

Alexander has made quite the journey from being a 20th-round Braves draft pick in 2018.

He only has 25 big league plate appearances (four hits), but he's been a solid hitter in his Triple-A career.

Alexander has a career .832 OPS in more than 900 plate appearances at Triple-A.

If that could translate even a little bit, it'd be an improvement for the Yankees at the hot corner.

Don't be surprised to see Alexander's name called up to the majors before too long just to give him a shot.
