Wednesday was a big day for New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns: It was his wedding anniversary to his wife, Whitney.
Stearns found a potentially less-than-ideal way to celebrate.
Early in the day, he was a part of the introductory press conference for big free agent signing Bo Bichette, who Stearns landed from the Toronto Blue Jays for a three-year contract worth a total of $126 million.
And then in the evening, Stearns negotiated a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. He acquired right-handed ace pitcher Freddy Peralta along with righty Tobias Myers for young starter Brandon Sproat and shortstop prospect Jett Williams.

Brewers GM Matt Arnold, who worked under Stearns in Milwaukee before Stearns departed for Queens, shared that factoid with reporters on Thursday.
"I think I might have ruined his anniversary dinner," Arnold said.
On the one hand, Stearns' wife can't be shocked by this. These front office leaders rarely get to disconnect. Sometimes, there's simply work that has to get done.
On the other hand, it's certainly a bit of a bummer. Stearns and his wife surely got married in January in part because it wasn't in baseball season. But now in charge of the Mets, Stearns doesn't really get a part of the year that doesn't count as baseball season.

Hopefully the Peralta negotiations didn't take too long and Stearns and his wife could celebrate all kinds of good things in a late-night dinner.
Stearns also shouldn't ever forget the date he traded for Peralta.
