The episode begins with cops finding Robert Sawyer's death in the garage. The death isn't startling, but it's a turning moment in the series. Even though Mike McLusky doesn't seem bothered, he knows Ian, his erstwhile ally, killed Sawyer. Robert's death was inevitable—he was a shattered man and would have come after Mike and his pals if he had lived.

This advances Mike's goals. He negotiates with Evelyn, the DA, after Robert's death. Evelyn has no incentive to imprison Kyle without Robert. She agrees to release Kyle if Mike brings Frank Moses to justice. This sets the setting for the episode as Mike navigates Kingstown's complicated criminal underground.

Moses is taken to an address as part of Mike's plan, where he thinks he will find the person who killed his best friend. But it's soon clear that this is all part of a trick. Moses goes to the address by himself, which is a strange thing for someone in his situation to do. When he gets there, he sees Lamar tied up and ready to be killed.

In a cold and calculated manner, Moses shoots Lamar in the head, immediately killing him. But as soon as the gunshot is heard, Ian and Stevie, who are close by, run in and arrest Moses for Lamar's murder. Given how much led up to the scene, the quick arrest feels almost anticlimactic. Mike is having a triumphant moment because he has moses cornered.
