The Toronto Maple Leafs aren't having the season anyone wanted.
They made the first decision toward changing that this week, firing assistant coach Marc Savard.
Savard, the former NHL center, helped run the Toronto power play that has been miserable.
What now? Do GM Brad Treliving or head coach Craig Berube go anywhere?
On Tuesday, we learned the Maple Leafs aren't getting rid of Treliving or Berube.
At a press conference, Treliving said, "I support Craig fully."
Treliving: “I support Craig fully.”
Leafs GM regarding Leafs head coach
The Maple Leafs are last place in the Eastern Conference through 35 games played.
SportsNet insider Elliotte Friedman reported the same thing that aligns with what Treliving said, that neither guy is "on the firing line."
"While removing Savard definitely won't solve all of Toronto’s problems, (Auston) Matthews’ struggles played a major role in that decision," Friedman wrote on Tuesday. "He has just three power-play goals (tied for 63rd) and four power-play points (tied for 182nd) this season."
The GM and head coach may not last forever, given that this season is a nightmare thus far. But they'll get a bit of a chance to pull it out of the gutter first.
