Peter Schmeichel has shared his thoughts on Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes' injury. He believes that it will be a big problem for the club as he's been their "best performer".

The Red Devils faced Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday, December 21. Bruno Fernandes started the game but appeared to pull up at around the 40-minute mark. He didn't receive any treatment, but was subbed off at half-time.

After the game, it was confirmed that he had suffered a hamstring injury. Speaking to Viaplay, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel shared his thoughts on the situation, saying (h/t Football365):

“That’s a problem for Manchester United. It is a problem, it’s a massive problem because he is the leader of the team, he’s the captain of the team. We don’t see the best of him because he plays in a position that is not his prime position, if you like. He’s a better No.10 but the system doesn’t really have that position for him. "They need him back there, he’s one of them that can help all the players around him. Without a shadow of a doubt, he’s been the best performer for Manchester United in the last many years.”

As per Transfermarkt, Bruno Fernandes has missed just two games due to injury since joining the Red Devils in January 2020.

Ruben Amorim provides update on Bruno Fernandes' injury after Manchester United's loss against Aston Villa

The Red Devils lost 2-1 against Aston Villa, as Morgan Rogers scored a brace, while Matheus Cunha scored for the visitors. However, the big concern for Manchester United would be the injury to Bruno Fernandes.

After the Premier League clash, Ruben Amorim told the reporters (h/t manutd.com):

"I think it's soft tissue. So, it's going to take a while. We'll see. It is really strange. During this year, especially at this time, we have so many problems, but we have to cope with that." "I don't know, I think he is going to lose some games, but I don't know for sure," the head coach revealed. "I don't want to talk about the matter, it is a guy who is always fit and he has shown he can always recover," he added.

Fernandes has scored 103 goals and provided 93 assists in 308 games for the Red Devils since arriving from Sporting CP. He has recorded five goals and seven assists in 18 games across competitions this season despite playing in a deeper position.
