Man Utd close in on first senior summer signing as talks hit 'advanced stages' image

Manchester United may be stuck in mid-table, but they're not standing still. The Red Devils are working hard behind the scenes — and their first major signing of the summer may already be on the way.

United are now in advanced talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign striker Matheus Cunha, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The deal isn’t done yet, but all signs point toward a big move for the Brazilian. And when we say big, we mean it — to the tune of €80 million.

That’s €74 million up front and another €6 million in add-ons, as per reports via Goal's Valentin Furlan.

It’s a price tag that shows how serious United are. Arsenal tried a late move, but United seem to have done enough to stay ahead in the race.

How close Matheus Cunha to joining Man United?

Transfer reporter Valentin Furlan reported: “Verbal agreement close, final steps on personal terms underway.”

That’s the kind of language that usually signals a done deal isn’t far away. Cunha also seems keen on the move, with reports suggesting he prefers United over Arsenal.

The 25-year-old forward has impressed for Wolves this season, scoring 15 goals and adding six assists in 31 league games. Sure, he gave away a penalty against Brighton — but we’ve all had bad days at the office.

United, meanwhile, are desperate for goals. Rasmus Højlund has struggled for consistency, and injuries to backup options haven’t helped. It’s no wonder the club wants someone who can score, assist, and stay on the pitch.

Cunha’s ability to play across the front line adds to his appeal. Whether he plays as a No.9, a No.10, or even out wide, United are hoping he’s the right fit to help fix their misfiring attack.

Fans won’t want to celebrate too early — we’ve seen deals fall apart before. But with the final touches being put on personal terms, Cunha could be wearing red sooner than later.
