Michael Van Buren Jr. threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Bower Sharp in the fourth quarter, lifting LSU to a 23-22 win over Arkansas on Saturday. The victory was interim coach Frank Wilson's first since taking over the program.
The Tigers (6-4, 3-4 SEC) snapped a three-game losing streak in Wilson’s second game as interim coach following Brian Kelly’s firing on Oct. 27. LSU trailed 22-16 early in the fourth before Van Buren put together a 12-play, 92-yard drive from the 8-yard line, highlighted by multiple trick looks and capped by his throw to Sharp with just under eight minutes left.
Van Buren, starting in place of injured Garrett Nussmeier, completed 21-of- 31 passes for 221 yards and connected with eight different receivers. He also ripped off a key 35-yard run that helped LSU drain the final minutes after Arkansas missed a 48-yard field goal.
Cayden Durham added a 27-yard touchdown run and Damian Ramos kicked three field goals for LSU.
Arkansas (3-7, 1-6 SEC) squandered several red-zone chances and got two interceptions from Taylen Green, who threw for 165 yards and rushed for 70. The Razorbacks also blocked a punt for a touchdown but couldn’t hold a late lead.
