Los Angeles Chargers continually predicted to add 24-TD running back at trade deadline

The Los Angeles Chargers are in the thick of the AFC playoff race. At 6-3, they trail the Denver Broncos by one game in the AFC West standings. With the NFL trade deadline less than 24 hours away, the team could consider adding another weapon in order to help make a deep playoff run this season.

The Chargers have battled a litany of injuries, but are still finding ways to win. It's no secret that the team could use help at running back. There have been reports for weeks that the front office is looking at options in that area.

The Chargers lost Najee Harris to a season-ending injury in Week 3 and first-round pick Omarion Hampton has missed the team's last four games with an ankle injury. With Hassan Haskins also nursing a hamstring injury, Kimani Vidal is the team's starting running back. The team has been backing him up with players elevated from the practice squad.

Though Hampton and Haskins are expected to be back in the lineup this season, the Chargers may look to add another option before Tuesday. Many have speculated that the team should go big by acquiring Breece Hall from the New York Jets

Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports is one of the latest to make that connection.

"The Los Angeles Chargers began the season on a hot streak but cooled slightly in the month of October. That's partly been due to injuries, particularly in the backfield. At 6-3 and very much in the mix for the division and a wild card spot, they should aim to improve the running game by looking to add someone like Breece Hall of the New York Jets", wrote Sullivan.

Would the Jets even be interested in trading Hall? If they were, what would he cost?

The Jets are one of the league's worst teams at 1-7. It's easy to speculate that the contending teams will look to raid the rosters of the teams that are having rough years, but that doesn't mean they are going to give up their best players. However, there is one aspect that makes this trade a possibility and that is the fact that Hall is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Despite being in his fourth NFL season, Hall is amazingly still just 24 years old. He has already rushed for nearly 3,000 yards in his career and his upside is tremendous. But if the Chargers were to make this trade, it should be with the plan of having Hall in L.A. for years to come, meaning a new contract would need to be negotiated. That adds to the cost of trading for him.

What would that mean for Hampton's future, considering the team used a first-round pick on him? What would that mean for Harris' future? He signed a lucrative one-year deal in the offseason. It would force the Chargers to reshuffle the running back room, but it could be worth it.

Hall is one of the best receiving running backs in the NFL. A one-two punch featuring him and a healthy Hampton could be quite lethal down the stretch this season and into the future as well.

He wouldn't come cheap. The Jets will want as much as they can get back for him, even if there is a good chance he signs with a new team next season. Hall's is an interesting name to watch as the deadline ticks closer to being here.
