Sporting a four-match losing streak in Premier League play, an increasingly desperate Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday.
The defending domestic league champions look all out of sorts as Arne Slot tinkers with his expensive summer signings hoping to figure out a winning combination.
Defeats to Brentford, Chelsea, and Manchester United in league play plus a third loss of the season to Crystal Palace already, this time in League Cup action, have left the Reds in sudden turmoil. While pressure is not believed to be on Slot just yet due to last year's title, Reds fans will not accept more failures and answers must be found quickly.
Florian Wirtz has not electrified the Premier League out of the gates like his price tag suggests he would, Alexander Isak has experienced a muted start to life at Anfield, and after signing a new contract over the summer, Mohamed Salah is looking every bit his 33 years old.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, look revived after a slow start to the campaign, having beaten Man City at home last weekend to extend their domestic winning streak to three matches. Having been dumped from the League Cup early, they had the week off to rest and prepare for this weekend.

Liverpool lineup vs. Crystal Palace: Projected starting XI
Mamardashvili (GK)
Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez
Szoboszlai, Mac Allister
Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo
Ekitike
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Liverpool team news
With first-choice goalkeeper Alisson remains sidelined, his replacement Giorgi Mamardashvili will return between the sticks after Freddie Woodman got the start in League Cup play midweek.
Arne Slot received criticism for rotating so heavily against Crystal Palace given the need for a positive result, so he will hope the gamble pays off as Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz, and Dominik Szoboszlai all benefit from the added rest.
Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo will get the start up front alongside Wirtz and Salah, with Alexander Isak a doubt thanks to a groin injury. Curtis Jones is also struggling with a knock, rendering Alexis Mac Allister's return to fitness a well-timed boost. Ryan Gravenberch has a better chance to feature against Villa, but it could come as a substitute.
Academy product Amara Nallo is suspended after being sent off in his midweek substitute appearance, but wasn't likely to be involved anyways.

Liverpool injury list
Below is the latest injury picture for Liverpool, including estimated return dates for those who are sidelined.
Ryan Gravenberch
- Injury: Ankle
- Expected return date: Early November 2025
Gravenberch was forced off against Manchester United earlier this month and he's missed the last two games. Slot will not risk him ahead of a weekend league battle with Aston Villa.
Curtis Jones
- Injury: Muscle
- Expected return date: Early November 2025
Slot confirmed Jones asked to come off at Brentford after tweaking a muscle, and he faces a race to be fit in time to take on Aston Villa on November 1.
Alexander Isak
- Injury: Groin
- Expected return date: Early November 2025
Slot was keen to play down concerns over his No. 9 after being forced to replace him in Frankfurt. He was omitted against Brentford, but is reportedly not quite ready to return just yet against Aston Villa.
Jereme Frimpong
- Injury: Hamstring
- Expected return date: November 2025
Frimpong suffered the second hamstring injury of his early Liverpool career in Frankfurt and faces another month on the sidelines as club medics look to get to the bottom of a nagging issue for the former Bayer Leverkusen star.
Alisson Becker
- Injury: Thigh
- Expected return date: December 2025
Slot's No. 1 Alisson suffered a thigh injury saving a certain goal in the defeat to Galatasaray at the end of September. The Brazilian could be out until late November or into December.
The summer departure of Caoimhin Kelleher was instantly filled by Mamardashvili, who has struggled with his opportunity in the first team.
Giovanni Leoni
- Injury: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear
- Expected return date: August 2026
Summer signing Leoni suffered a nightmare debut as he horrifically tore an ACL against Southampton. The Italian defender underwent immediate surgery and his campaign has already been cruelly ended.
