Luka Doncic Injury Update: JJ Redick Spills the Beans on Slovenian Superstar's Return Timeline From Twin Injuries

LA Lakers star Luka Doncic missed his third consecutive game due to a finger sprain and leg contusion. Lakers coach JJ Redick provided an update on the five-time NBA All-Star's injuries ahead of Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Per NBA insider Dave McMenamin, Redick said Doncic remains day-to-day and the team expects him to be back "in the next couple of games."

Redick added that Doncic's sprained finger on his left hand is progressing, as it went from double its normal size to roughly one and a half times its standard size. The Lakers star reportedly did not travel with the team for its two-game road trip, which concludes on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Lakers are 2-2 to start this season, and have split the two games with Doncic in the lineup. Doncic is off to a hot start this season, scoring 43 points in the season-opening 119-109 loss against the Golden State Warriors. He followed that up with a 49-point performance in the 128-110 win against the Timberwolves on Friday.

Aside from Doncic and LeBron James, LA also listed Marcus Smart, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber and Adou Thiero on its injury list on Wednesday.

JJ Redick also provided an update on LeBron James' recovery timeline

In the same media availability before the LA Lakers' game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, JJ Redick was asked about LeBron James' return timetable from sciatica.

According to NBA insider Dave McMenamin, Redick said that there is no set date for the 21-time All-Star's return, but the team is targeting the second or third week of November.

This aligns with the original plan of mid-November for James' debut for his record 23rd season. On Oct. 9, the team announced that James is expected to miss between three and four weeks.

With both of the Lakers' superstars sidelined, Austin Reaves is expected to pick up the slack and fill the void. The 27-year-old guard has risen to the occasion, scoring at least 25 points in each of the team's first four games. On Sunday, he scored a career-high 51 points against the Sacramento Kings.
