Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a free transfer move for former Arsenal star Serge Gnabry. The German will be a free agent next summer after his Bayern Munich contract expires at the end of the season.

According to a report in BILD, Liverpool are pushing to sign the 30-year-old star, who remains in contract talks at Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions have not given up on the winger, and are hoping to agree terms after urging him to reduce wages.

Liverpool are hoping to reach a pre-contract agreement with Gnabry in January, as he will be free to hold talks with clubs outside Germany after the turn of the year. Juventus are also interested in signing the German, who is yet to make a decision on his future.

The winger spent five years at Arsenal after joining the youth setup from VfB Stuttgart before leaving in 2016. He has been in fine form this season, scoring four goals and assisting thrice in nine Bundesliga matches.

Arne Slot is keen on bolstering his attack and is looking to add a winger next summer. The Reds lack options on the wings, with Coky Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, and Mohamed Salah as their only senior options.

Arsenal legend told Liverpool to sell Mohamed Salah in 2023

Mohamed Salah has been sub-par for Liverpool this season, and old quotes from Arsenal legend Paul Merson have resurfaced. The pundit had urged the Reds to sell the Egyptian and signed Bukayo Saka as his replacement and said (via Tribuna):

"Do they sell him for £200 million and then in January see if they can get Saka from Arsenal for £150 million? I'm thinking right, one person is 31 and I can get £200m who is the next one in line? Who is going to be the next big thing on the right wing." "The next one in line is definitely Saka, he's the best right winger about after Salah. If you were L'pool you'd be trading in someone who's a bit older for someone who's younger. They should rock the boat with Arsenal and say here's £150m for someone. What they've done at L'pool at the moment is got rid of all the older midfield players and brought in all younger players."

Arsenal and Liverpool battled for the Premier League title last season, with the Reds sealing the top spot by 10 points at the end.
