Latest reports indicate Buffalo Bills have two controversial names in mind as new head coach

The Buffalo Bills made massive waves on Monday when it was announced they had fired head coach Sean McDermott. After the disappointing loss to the Denver Broncos, a franchise that hadn't won a playoff game since 2015, the Bills decided it was time to move on from McDermott after nine seasons.

Now, the Bills will have to go on their first head coaching search since ending the playoff drought. And according to multiple NFL insiders, the early leading candidates might drive Bills fans wild. Per Dianna Russini, former Bills offensive coordinator and New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is a name to watch.

"Talking to NFL executives around the league about Buffalo’s next head coach options, the name that keeps coming up is a familiar one, a Buffalo native and someone Josh Allen loves: Brian Daboll," Russini reports.

Daboll was fired by the Giants after a 2-8 start. However, he took New York to the playoffs in his first season as head coach in 2022. Another name gaining traction is current Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, per Connor Hughes.

"Wouldn’t surprise me to see Joe Brady get a real look there," Hughes reports. "Talk amongst league circles last year that he was the guy in waiting, per sources. They’ll certainly go through process, and another candidate could wow them, but Brady has a lot of fans in that building."

Considering the frustration that fans had with Brady's play-calling in 2025, many would audibly groan if he was the guy to get the head coaching gig as McDermott's replacement.
