You won't believe this crazy VJ Edgecombe stat

1 hour ago 3

Although he's been overshadowed by the likes of other rookies including Kon Knueppel, Cooper Flagg and Cedric Coward, VJ Edgecombe has had a productive season for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The recent No. 3 overall pick has averaged 15.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.5 steals, proving himself to be a future two-way star.

Edgecombe currently leads all rookies in steals and ranks second in plus-minus.

Amidst injuries to both Joel Embiid and Paul George, Edgecombe has been durable, having played and started in 36 of 40 games.

However, what may be most impressive about Edgecombe, is his ability to perform under pressure. He's shown this throughout the year, making big shots in the clutch, including a game-winning three-pointer earlier in the season against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Not only do the stats back this up, they describe Edgecombe as one of the league's best performers down the stretch.

With a minimum of 30 field goal attempts in "clutch time" (final five minutes of the game with both teams separated by five points or fewer), Edgecombe's effective field goal percentage (eFG%) is 68.8%.

That ranks him second in the league, 6.3% ahead of third place (Nikola Jokic). Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves is the league leader.

Hoping to remain efficient in the clutch, Edgecombe and the 76ers will return to action Monday at home against the Indiana Pacers, their third game of a six-game homestand.

A win would snap a brief two-game losing streak, falling to the Cavaliers in consecutive games.
