The Lakers were the inaugural Emirates Cup champions in 2023 before the Milwaukee Bucks took away the crown in 2024. LA will be rearing to have a strong start to the in-season tournament this time around and build on its 116-115 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

Austin Reaves’ purple patch continued as he put up 28 points and 16 assists. Jake LaRavia excelled as well with 27 points, while Deandre Ayton had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Purple and Gold continue to be without LeBron James (sciatica). He isn’t expected to make his season debut until mid-November. Maxi Kleber (oblique strain) and Gabe Vincent (ankle) are out as well. Luka Doncic (finger) and Marcus Smart (quadriceps) are questionable for Friday’s game.

The Grizzlies have traded wins and losses in the five games they have played so far. With Memphis coming off of a 114-113 win against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, it will be interesting to see if it can break the existing trend and get two wins on the trot.

Ja Morant led the team in the win with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while Jaren Jackson Jr. had 18 points.

Memphis continues to be without Zach Edey (left ankle), Brandon Clarke (knee synovitis), Scotty Pippen Jr. (left big toe injury) and Ty Jerome (calf).
