Klay Thompson’s dad predicts Duke Blue Devils basketball phenom Cooper Flagg will join Luka Doncic in Lakers trade

Klay Thompson’s father, Mychal, who won two NBA championships with the “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s, predicts Cooper Flagg ending up on Luka Doncic’s new team five years down the road.

“And the good thing is Luka will only be 31 when Dallas trades Coop to the Lakers in 5 years,” Thompson tweeted.

Klay played half a season with Doncic before the Slovenian star was dealt to the Lakers five days before the trade deadline. The Doncic trade preceded a busy NBA trade deadline in February.

Doncic’s Lakers lost 4-1 to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a one-sided Western Conference Quarterfinals series that proved Los Angeles didn’t have enough depth, or enough capable big men, to help a 40-year-old LeBron James win it all with a superstar acquired midseason for one he already won a championship with.

Flagg’s Duke Blue Devils reached the Final Four but were eliminated by the Houston Cougars in a stunning last-minute comeback. His 21 points, 7.6 rebounds, and five assists per game throughout March Madness further established his legend in Durham and solidified Flagg as the No. 1 pick in the draft.

With Flagg seemingly on his way to the Mavs, many are still scarred about Nico Harrison’s aggressive posturing in the frontcourt from the Doncic trade and think there could be a last-minute deal.

The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to listen to an offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo if Harrison and Co. offer the 2025 NBA draft’s top overall pick.

Harrison could go down in history as the least popular GM if he were to give up on Flagg and the ex-Duke star lived up to his potential in the Association.
