Chelsea lose out as major transfer target chooses Real Madrid

Regardless of how their ongoing season ends, Chelsea are set for a busy summer transfer window with a number of incomings and outgoings certain to take place at the club.

However, it seems as though the Blues have been dealt a blow even before the transfer window opens as a major transfer target has picked Real Madrid over a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to a report by the Marca, Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen is seemingly prioritising a move to Real Madrid ahead of Arsenal or Chelsea.

The centreback has enjoyed a breakthrough year with the Cherries, thereby altering a number of clubs about his availability.

Additionally, the 20-year-old has a £50m release clause in his deal with Bournemouth, making him easily attainable.

Chelsea have reportedly been interested in signing Huijsen for a while now and have also made a bid for him. However, the youngster seemingly only has eyes for Los Blancos as things stand.

Real Madrid have also learned that Huijsen's release clause can be paid in three instalments, freeing up more cash for them to conduct their summer business.

That would be another positive for their prospective new head coach, Xabi Alonso, who wants to make two signings before the Club World Cup starts next month.

It is also interesting to note that Real Madrid tried to sign Huijsen in 2021 but ended up losing out to Juventus, however, the club's powerbrokers have maintained a good relationship with the defender’s father. Huijsen could yet be joined by Trent Alexander-Arnold after he announced his Liverpool exit.

Huijsen looks set to be one of Alonso’s first signings as the club looks to react after an uncharacteristically trophy-less season.
