Kentucky steps out of league play Saturday when it hosts undefeated Tennessee Tech at Kroger Field. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network Plus.
Kentucky (4-5) is coming off its most complete performance of the season, a 38-7 dismantling of Florida that followed a 10-3 road win at Auburn. The Wildcats have scored at least 30 points in two of their last four outings, a surge that offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan attributes to improved execution and a philosophical reset after a loss at South Carolina.
“It has been about the process for a while now,” Hamdan said this week. “If you can run the ball, a lot of things naturally start happening. I’ve been proud of the third-down operation as well.”
Kentucky will face a confident Tennessee Tech team that is 10-0 and ranked No. 6 in the AFCA FCS poll. The Golden Eagles have won 15 straight games dating to last season and are chasing their first playoff berth since 2011. But second-year coach Bobby Wilder made clear he is frustrated about this week’s matchup.
“Hate it. Just absolutely hate this,” Wilder said, noting the game was scheduled before his arrival. “This isn’t ideal when we’re competing for a conference championship.”
Kentucky leads the all-time series 1-0, having won 72-13 in 1951. The Wildcats are paying $600k to the Golden Eagles for the matchup, according to FBS Schedules.
