Josh Allen steers clear of promises while making feelings known on facing Chiefs “damn near every year”

Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes are set to clash again this Sunday as the Buffalo Bills take on the Kansas City Chiefs. This is a matchup that’s become one of the NFL’s most anticipated rivalries in recent years.

The two superstar quarterbacks have now met nine times across regular season and postseason play, and Allen knows exactly what kind of battle awaits. However, he made sure not to over-promise Bills fans about a win or defeating the Chiefs and played it safe.

“I think we’ve played them damn near every year,” Allen told reporters this week. “There’s different things you can do making things look the same but being completely different.”

Allen didn’t make any bold promises.

“Anytime you’re playing against a good team and a good quarterback, you have to play at the top of your game,” he said. “There’s a heightened sense of awareness to that.”

The Bills enter the showdown fresh off a 40-9 win over the Carolina Panthers, ending a two-game skid and reigniting momentum heading into Arrowhead.

Mahomes also didn’t hold back in his praise for Allen yesterday.

“To be that size and move like that, it’s special,” he said. “He’s gotten better every year, and that’s something I try to do for myself as well.” (00:30)

The Chiefs have won five of their last six and look every bit the Super Bowl contender many expected them to be.

Josh Allen vs. Patrick Mahomes

Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes have turned their rivalry into one of the NFL’s best storylines. Through nine total matchups, Mahomes holds the overall edge at 5–4. In the regular season, Allen and the Bills have the upper hand, posting a 4–1 record against the Chiefs.

Both quarterbacks have thrown 10 touchdowns, but Allen’s efficiency is better with four fewer interceptions and a 94.5 passer rating compared to Mahomes’ 85.9. Allen’s also done more damage on the ground, tallying 220 rushing yards and three touchdowns to Mahomes’ zero.

But when the lights shine brightest, Mahomes takes over. In postseason meetings, the Chiefs star boasts a 4–0 record, nine touchdown passes, and a 123.7 passer rating, all while outdueling Allen in every passing metric.
