Watch: Buddy Matthews shows off insane physique amid AEW absence

Former AEW champion Buddy Matthews has been missing from active competition for several months now. The "Best Kept Secret" is seemingly preparing for his comeback, however, and recently shared a social media update showing off his incredible physique.

This past February at Grand Slam Australia, home-town hero Buddy Matthews unsuccessfully challenged Kazuchika Okada for his Continental Championship. The Hounds of Hell member had unfortunately sustained a serious injury to his ankle during his entrance for the bout, and although he was able to finish the matchup, the accident put him out of commission afterwards. Buddy revealed in June that his ankle was not recovering at the pace he had hoped it would. Later in August, he went under the knife to further his recovery.

The former AEW World Trios Champion has been on the mend since then. Despite being away from the squared circle, Buddy Matthews has continued to stay in touch with his fans on social media. The star recently took to Instagram to post a clip of himself training, presumably for his comeback.

“Competitive toughness is an acquired skill and not an inherited gift.” - Buddy wrote in the caption.

A report from last month claimed that Matthews could remain out of action until the end of 2025.

AEW's Buddy Matthews spotted with Rhea Ripley and other top WWE names

From 2013 to 2021, Buddy Matthews had been signed with WWE, where he used to compete under the ring-name Buddy Murphy. The Australian has a number of close acquaintances working for the sports entertainment juggernaut, besides his wife, former Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley. Matthews was recently spotted in a star-studded gym photograph along with The Nightmare, former WWE Champion CM Punk, and former US Champion LA Knight.
