Joe Burrow injury update: Cincinnati Bengals star expected to miss 'several weeks'

It would appear that Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has avoided the worst following an injury in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to what little information we have currently, it doesn't look like Burrow has a season-ending injury. However, the expectation is he's likely to miss time.

Jeremy Rauch of FOX19 reports that Burrow is "believed to have turf toe with torn ligaments," and the expectation is he will miss "several weeks" if that diagnosis is accurate.

"Source: Joe Burrow is believed to have turf toe with torn ligaments. Tricky timeline on his return, but expectation would be several weeks," Rauch reported.

Following the game, Burrow was spotted in the locker room wearing a walking boot and was getting around with a single crutch. That is no doubt a bad sign.

If Burrow is forced to miss extended time, backup Jake Browning will get the nod for the foreseeable future.

Browning has shown himself to be a solid backup in the past, although he did not look like that in Week 2. The Washington product did throw for 241 yards and two scores, but he also tossed three picks. Despite that, the Bengals still won, 31-27.

It comes as zero surprise that Burrow got injured running for his life. It's a scenario we've seen play out time and time again during his career, yet the Bengals routinely fail to adequately upgrade the offensive line in order to protect the franchise's most important player.

Now, the Bengals will try to weather the storm and keep themselves in position to remain in the playoff hunt until Burrow gets back.
