Jets take firm Garrett Wilson trade stance after Sauce Gardner blockbuster

The New York Jets have pulled off multiple stunning trades at the 2025 NFL deadline. Heading into the deadline, Michael Carter II was their lone trade. But on deadline day, the Jets dealt Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams in two blockbuster trades.

In the wake of both of those moves, the trade rumors surrounding Jermaine Johnson and Breece Hall ramped up. But another player was sucked into those trade rumors: wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

However, according to Connor Hughes of SNYtv, the Jets are taking a very firm stance on Wilson, one that they didn't take with Gardner or Williams.

Jets' Garrett Wilson is 'untouchable' according to insider

"Spoke to a team that called the Jets recently about WR Garrett Wilson," Hughes reports. "With Sauce Gardener dealt, feeling around the NFL is that anyone can be had. Not the case with Wilson. Conversations did not progress. He's untouchable."

While the Jets are selling off a lot of their best players at the 2025 NFL trade deadline, Wilson is not expected to be a part of such trade deadline moves.

New York landed a massive haul for both Gardner and Williams, including three first-round picks and a second-round pick, along with Mazi Smith and Adonai Mitchell, two highly drafted players.

Wilson, if he were to be available, would draw even more draft pick compensation for the Jets. But Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey have zero intention to trade their star wide receiver.

The 25-year-old wide receiver is a core part of the Jets offense and the future of the franchise. So far this season, in six games, he has 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns.

Since coming to the Jets in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Wilson has 3,644 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns on 315 receptions.

Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million extension through the 2030 season. The Jets wanted to keep Wilson for a long time, and while Gardner also recently signed a big extension, the Jets decided to keep Wilson.

He will help the new Jets quarterback, whom they'll likely draft in either 2026 or 2027, acclimate to the NFL.

Having an elite number one option will be huge for a rookie quarterback, and is one of many reasons why the Jets aren't trading Wilson despite a fire sale. Wilson is "untouchable," and for good reason.
