The New York Jets, coming off a disastrous first season under Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey, could be looking at both the head coach and general manager on the hot seat entering their second season with the team.
It would not be a surprise if the Jets cleaned house if the 2026 season is another disaster. But that situation is what makes things so interesting for Glenn, Mougey, and the Jets in 2026.
As Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox notes, the Jets' projected plan for 2026 is to tank. But that plan will have negative impacts on Glenn and Mougey, as their jobs could be at risk.
Jets' tanking plan is big issue for Glenn and Mougey
"The big question in New York is whether head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey will be picking the next quarterback after two seasons of intentional futility," Knox writes.
With the 2026 season still months away, it's hard to know for sure if the Jets are fully planning on tanking. But, with the way the roster is set up, with a massive hole at quarterback long-term, the Jets' tanking would not be a surprise at all.
Ideally, the Jets tank for the 2026 season and get a top-tier draft pick in the 2027 NFL draft. And if they aren't picking as high as they need to for some reason, they have two extra first-round picks they could use to move up.

With Glenn and Mougey seemingly on the hot seat after a disastrous 2025 season, another bad year in 2026 might lead to both the head coach and general manager being fired.
However, tanking and having another bad season might be the best thing that could happen to the Jets in 2026.
Landing a higher draft pick, ideally first overall, would give the Jets plenty of ammo to land their ideal quarterback and bring in a ton of talent for the future.
The Jets might be planning to tank, but the head coach and general manager's jobs might be at risk if their season is a bad one. This is a conundrum for the Jets, as the HC and GM might not be on board with their ideal tanking plan in 2026.
