Jerry Jones, Cowboys face unfortunate Brandon Aubrey NFL Free Agency reality

1 hour ago 3

To say that the Dallas Cowboys are stuck in multiple contract conundrums is an understatement. Jerry Jones has not done so well when it comes to contracts or NFL Free Agency deals. He had to let go of Micah Parsons and Ezekiel Elliot while also having a long standoff with CeeDee Lamb which prevented the receiver from joining their offseason program. Brandon Aubrey is the next star in line and 'America's Team' does not have the franchise tag to spend on him.

Contract conundrum with the Dallas star kicker

The Cowboys have begun contract talks with Aubrey before the start of the 2025 season. Up until a week before free agency negotiation ends, they still have not come to an agreement. Jones remains optimistic despite their second-round tender only being valued at $5.81 million while Aubrey's agent asked for $10 million, via Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News.

"It’s been a journey but we haven’t been able to get to a point where we can all agree. Haven’t gotten it done, but we’d love to get him done," the Cowboys owner declared.

Aubrey has an insane 88.2% field goal completion percentage throughout his three years with the Cowboys. Because of that, he also notched an AP first-team All-Pro selection, two AP second-team All-Pro selections, and a three Pro Bowl nods. So, the Cowboys kicker clearly wants to be paid way more than what Jones and Co. are offering. In fact, he might be gunning for Harrison Butker's record of being the highest-paid kicker in the NFL.

"Obviously the tender is what the Cowboys have talked about, and it’s a good problem to have. It’s a good amount of money and it’s a big pay raise from before, but it’s not the ideal for any player. We’ll see what happens. I’m excited to be in this position. It’s an opportunity for me ... so I’m thankful for that. When you hit that restricted free agency, if you’re not testing the market then you’re not doing what’s right for you and your family. So you have to do that, if that’s what it comes to," the Cowboys kicker declared.

Clearly, the Cowboys front office led by Jones and Aubrey do not see eye-to-eye on this new contract. Will this lead to another departure due NFL Free Agency just like in year's past?
