Jawhar Jordan, Nick Chubb Week 16 start or sit advice with Woody Marks not expected to play

The Houston Texans are going to have a different starting running back in Week 16.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, running back Woody Marks is not expected to play against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday after drawing a questionable tag this week.

"Source: Texans RB Woody Marks is not expected to play today vs. the Raiders due to his ankle injury," Schefter reported.

Nick Chubb is also questionable to play in this game, but Schefter reported on Saturday night that the veteran will suit up.

"Texans RB Nick Chubb, also listed as questionable for Sunday due to a rib injury, is expected to play vs. the Texans," Schefter reported.

Now, this sets up a murky scenario, as second-year back Jawhar Jordan, who went off last week, could get more touches with Marks out.

But Chubb might stand in the way of that.

Here's our advice.

Jawhar Jordan, Nick Chubb start or sit advice

Chubb started off the season as the Texans' lead back before eventually ceding that role to Marks.

While Chubb should get more work with Marks out, he hasn't done anywhere near enough to warrant starting consideration, as Chubb ranks as RB47 overall in terms of fantasy points per contest this season.

We would assume Jordan will see more carries this week, but head coach DeMeco Ryans would not commit to that one way or the other during the week when asked about Jordan's performance in Week 15, when he ripped off over 100 rushing yards.

“We'll cross that bridge when it gets there-but I think more so for right now in this game yesterday [Win vs Cardinals], We're giving Jawhar [Jordan] his praise for what he was able to accomplish," Ryan said of Jordan.

"I thought he did an outstanding job of taking advantage of the opportunity that was presented to him, and he did a great job of getting over 100-yards rushing, making some explosive runs for us.. So, it's a credit to Jawhar for right now. We’ll go deal with the other issue when we get there. But, for right now, credit to Jawhar."

This is a great matchup for both backs, as the Raiders are ceding the ninth-most fantasy points per game to the position this season.

All that said, there is just too much uncertainty here with not knowing who will be the lead back, and then you have to consider that Dare Ogunbowale is also in the mix.

Play it safe and avoid this situation at all costs.

If we had to choose one, we would go with Jordan, who provides more upside than the diminished Chubb. The veteran, on the other hand, is the more conservative, safer play.
