Jared Goff wasn't happy with Detroit Lions fans' 'F Ben Johnson' chant

The Week 2 game between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions at Ford Field was a homecoming for Bears head coach Ben Johnson, who previously served as the Lions' offensive coordinator.

Despites all the success he had there in helping turn the Lions into an elite team, the same fans that used to cheer him did not have a positive reaction — to say the least — to his return.

First, Johnson was met with boos when he entered the field. Then, at the end of the contest, Lions fans started a "F*** Ben Johnson" chant after Detroit had the game in hand.

After the game, quarterback Jared Goff made it quite clear he didn't agree with the way Johnson was treated, especially when it comes to the chant.

"Goff said he didn't like the 'f*** Ben Johnson chants," AtoZ Sports' Mike Payton reported after the game. "Said he did a lot for the Lions when he was here and he didn't deserve that."

It's true that Johnson did a lot, as we already mentioned. But he also left the Lions for a division rival, so that was always going to draw a negative reaction. If Johnson had left for a non-NFC North team, things wouldn't be this toxic.

Making Johnson's return to Detroit even worse was the fact that the Bears got their doors blown off in a game that was never really that close. The Lions dropped 52 points on Johnson's squad while Chicago's offense struggled mightily to get anything going.

Goff was spectacular in the winning effort. He completed 23-of-28 passes for 334 yards and five touchdowns to zero interceptions. Offensive coordinator John Morton pulled himself out of the dog house with Lions fans, also.

There was a ridiculous narrative going around that Goff is nothing without Johnson and his former Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay calling plays, as Goff entered the Week 2 game with a 3-18-1 record when neither one was calling plays.

So much for that.
