Jannik Sinner recently extended his congratulations to the Matteo Berrettin-led Italy for their Davis Cup triumph. As the team clinched their third-consecutive title at the event in his absence, the World No.2 penned an endearing message for his compatriots.
Italy entered the Davis Cup Finals as the two-time defending champions and the team had the chance to make history on home ground. Despite their squad missing Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, their two top ten players, Italy got their campaign in Bologna off to an incredible start, clinching easy wins over Austria and Belgium in their quarterfinals and semifinals ties.
In the finals, Matteo Berrettini helped Italy kick things off on the right note as he defeated Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta in straight sets. Up next, Flavio Cobolli staged an incredible comeback against Jaume Munar, winning his match 1-6 7-6(5) 7-5 to hand Italy their third-consecutive Davis Cup title, making them the first team to achieve this feat post-Challenge Round era. Reacting to the team's triumph, Jannik Sinner wrote on his Instagram story,
“Congratulations for this incredible victory.”
Via @janniksinSinner himself chose to pull out of the 2025 Davis Cup due to the hectic ATP calendar and his decision to prioritise his preparations for the 2026 season.

The 24-year-old first suggested that the event be held once every two years, saying (as quoted by Tennis Temple),
"With this schedule, it's complicated for the best players from each country to be present every year. In the future, I would like to see the Davis Cup played every two years. That way, we could have the semi-finals at the start of the year, and the final towards the end of the year.”Sinner added that each tie should be held in a home and away type of format, explaining,
“If we take the example of a USA-Australia tie in Bologna, I'm not saying there won't be spectators in the stands. But why not have a real Davis Cup? I have never had the opportunity to play the real Davis Cup, the one where you go to Brazil or Argentina, with a whole stadium behind their country. That is the real Davis Cup. At the same time, this year, we can have a USA-Australia tie in Bologna. The Davis Cup thrill is missing.”Jannik Sinner has previously competed at the Davis Cup in 2023 and 2024. The youngster played a major role in leading Italy to the title in both these years.
