Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli recently recalled how Jannik Sinner was incredibly respectful towards her when it came to giving her an interview following his heartbreaking loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the men's singles final of the 2025 French Open. Bartoli claimed that had she been in Sinner's shoes, she wouldn't have been able to keep a check on her emotions.
The 2025 French Open's men's singles final between Sinner and Alcaraz was one for the ages. At one stage in the epic five-hour-29-minute contest, the Italian had multiple match points. However, the Spaniard, displaying remarkable powers of recovery, held firm and ultimately turned the tables on his ATP Tour rival, going on to win Roland Garros for the second straight year.
Jannik Sinner was understandably heartbroken. However, he didn't let his disappointment get the better of him. According to 2013 Wimbledon women's singles champion Marion Bartoli, the Italian, who at the time was the World No. 1 in men's singles tennis, spoke to her pleasantly and even looked forward to interacting with her at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. Speaking to the BBC, the now-retired Frenchwoman said:
"He made the effort to stand up, came towards me and I was like, 'Is he really coming towards me?' He came towards me and obviously I stood up in front of him and he was like, 'Oh man! It was really nice for your interview for 15 days. I can't wait to see you at Wimbledon.' And I was in a state of shock that after almost six hours of play on the court, he still remembers who I am and makes the effort to stand up and come on the court."Going on to state how she would have completely lost control of her emotions had she experienced the kind of loss that Sinner did at Roland Garros, Bartoli added:
"I would have broken everything that's possible to break in the locker room if I would have lost a Grand Slam final at home after having three match points. And I would have definitely not made the effort to go around and wave goodbye to someone working at broadcasting.""Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner are a true example" - Marion Bartoli

The Frenchwoman claimed that the young duo inspires her despite her own age being significantly greater than that of the Spaniard and the Italian.
"I'm sure we're going to talk about it next, but the level of integrity, of respect, of dignity those two are capable of showing in the toughest moments is absolutely extraordinary for me. And I was absolutely not at their level and they are a true example, even for myself nowadays," Bartoli concluded.Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz went on to face each other in the finals of this year's Wimbledon Championships, US Open and the ATP Finals as well. While the Italian registered triumphs spanning Wimbledon and the ATP Finals, at the US Open, it was the Spaniard who reigned supreme.
