Jade Cargill won her first world title in WWE by defeating Tiffany Stratton for the Women's Championship at Saturday Night's Main Event XLI. The Storm overpowered an injured Stratton after her heel turn just a few days before the TV special.
But, while she has been booked dominantly, her run as the Women's Champion has been a huge flop. And it is safe to say that the person responsible for it is WWE Chief Content Officer, Triple H.
Jade Cargill doesn't have any credible challengers
Since her victory over Stratton, Cargill has mostly been feuding with B-Fab and Michin, who have not been given a prominent spot in any capacity. Neither of them poses a threat to her as champion, considering how much more dominantly she is booked.
As a result, her current storylines have felt like filler content, even when taking into account her altercations with United States Champion Chelsea Green. And now that Michin is out with a shoulder injury, plans for Cargill may have taken an even bigger hit.
Most of her potential opponents are in the tag team division
Perhaps the best way to kick off Jade Cargill's first title feud would have been to book her with someone a bit more established. Nia Jax, Lash Legend, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss would have been great first feuds for the Women's Champion. However, none of them are currently available owing to their preoccupation in the women's tag team division.
While the tag division is red-hot as a result of the involvement of so many stars, the world title has felt extremely unimportant over the last few months.
SmackDown's women's division has felt underwhelming at best
Triple H's booking of both Jade Cargill and Giulia has left a lot to be desired. While Cargill is being booked as a bully, similar to Brock Lesnar, Giulia is in a worse position after losing her United States Title to Chelsea Green in under 90 seconds.
Having them feud against one another could potentially benefit both of them. But it seems like the current trajectory for both stars will not allow it. The difference in star power between RAW and SmackDown has created a major imbalance, and the blue brand is suffering as a result.
The arrival of new talents from NXT could fix the issue. But the storylines just have to be more compelling to be taken seriously.
