Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton has opened up about his lack of minutes under Arne Slot in the 2024-25 season. He expressed his disappointment, but also believes he's developed throughout the campaign.
Morton came through Liverpool's academy and spent the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 seasons on loan at Blackburn and Hull City, respectively. He stayed with the Reds in the 2024-25 season under Slot. However, he made just five senior appearances across competitions.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Morton spoke about his lack of minutes, saying (via GOAL):
"I think it's been the toughest season mentally for me. Obviously, I've coped with it very well because I've got good people around me, but it's been very tough. I think I've coped with it as well as I possibly could. I think when you're not playing as a footballer who's as hungry as I am, it does hurt. "It's tough, especially when, in my opinion, I wanted to go out and I wanted to play and I wanted to go on loan and get my game time. But having chatted with the manager, having to stay, it could have worked out a lot worse than it did. It probably could have worked out a lot better than it did. It's still been a good season. I've still developed and, as you said, I still feel really sharp and really ready to go."Morton made three appearances in the EFL Cup and one each in the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season for Liverpool's senior team.
Liverpool make record transfer bid for Florian Wirtz: Reports
As per Sky Sports, Liverpool had made an offer worth £113 million to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz this summer. The offer includes £100 million plus £13 million in add-ons. This is the Reds' club record fee.
If accepted, it would be the second-highest transfer fee in British football history. The record lies at £115 million, which Chelsea paid to Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo in 2023. However, the Merseysiders' bid for Wirtz is still short of Bayer Leverkusen's demand of £126 million.
As per the aforementioned report, the German midfielder is keen to join Liverpool. He joined Leverkusen's U19 from FC Koln's academy in 2020. He's recorded 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 games for the German side, winning multiple trophies. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also interested in signing Wirtz.
