European Tour Group chief executive officer Guy Kinnings opened up about the fans’ abusive behavior at the Ryder Cup 2025. This year, the biennial tournament was held at the Bethpage Black course in New York. During the event, the European team had a dominating performance and retained its title on foreign soil.
They encountered incidents of abusive behavior from fans on the course. Reportedly, a fan threw beer on Rory McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll, during the game.Although it’s been over a month since the completion of the Ryder Cup, it continues to make headlines because of the fans’ behavior.
In an exclusive interview with The Scotsman, Kinnings opened up about the tournament and said it’s time to move on from “Bethpage Black” and focus on the upcoming edition of the event.
“It is time for us to move on from Bethpage Black and, as we have always known since announcing Adare Manor, we are going to a great place in 2027. But there are lessons to be learned from this match and no-one should forget how the players handled that was amazing," Kinnings said. “That will forever be to their credit. How they dealt with that and performed at the level they did was absolutely astonishing. And the most important thing for us to remember about this Ryder Cup is that Europe won and Europe did an unbelievable job," he added. The Europe team took an early lead at the Ryder Cup 2025 after the Friday matchups. They were also impressive on Saturday, but in the singles on Sunday, the USA team bounced back. Still, the defending champions managed to secure their win.
Europe Tour Group’s chief praises Luke Donald for winning two back-to-back Ryder Cups
Europe Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald helped the squad win the title two times in a row. In 2023, the team, led by Donald, won on home soil in Rome, and again in 2025, he returned as the captain and once again managed to win the event.
In the interview with The Scotsman, Guy Kinnings reflected on Donald’s back-to-back wins.
“What Luke has achieved as the Ryder Cup captain is astonishing,” Kinning said. “I’ve known him since he was an amateur and it has been great to see him grow into this role. He’s a truly brilliant leader, he really is. Yes, Tony Jacklin won home and away but, for Luke to have won back-to-back like that when it was meant to be really hard in Rome and almost impossible in New York was absolutely brilliant. Not only as the captain, but Luke Donald also had an impressive record at the Ryder Cup as a player. He made his debut in 2004, and the European team won the event that year. He also played for the winning team in 2006, 2010, and 2012.
