Paul Kim and his family are navigating an unimaginable tragedy.
The content creator—who makes videos about his Catholic faith—shared that his 5-year-old son Micah Kim died on New Year’s Eve after experiencing a medical emergency before Christmas and "fighting 11 long, hard days" in the hospital.
"Micah went home to the house of Our Father," Paul—who is also dad to five other young children with his wife Maggie Kim—shared in a video posted on Instagram Jan. 1. "It's been the hardest thing I’ve ever been through in my life and it continues to be."
Micah's health struggles began Dec. 21, when he was rushed to the hospital for what Paul described as an "insane case of the flu."
"It caused him to go septic," Paul explained in a Dec. 30 update. "He went into seizures, and the doctors are saying it's one of the most horrific cases of this virus they've ever seen in their life. It's very rare what happened to my son."
“In many ways, we were fighting for Micah to buy him as much time as possible, until he passed,” he continued at the time. "As a father, that is my duty. I was called to do that. Even if in God’s ultimate will it wasn’t meant for him to recover."
Though Micah was placed on life support, his condition worsened. Ultimately, Paul said his son sustained "catastrophic injury to his brain" as well as damage to his kidneys and lungs.

"There's a real possibility that before Micah passed, he may have already been gone," the influencer shared in his Jan. 1 video, explaining that his child was in a coma in his final days. "His body was there, but we know that his soul was already with the Lord."
Now, Paul said his late son is "working miracles in heaven" as his legacy lives on in the hearts of his loved ones, including his siblings Audrey Kim, 11, Aiden Kim, 9, Remy Kim, 6, John Paul Kim, 2, and Joey Kim, 18 months.
"As much as I have been just sobbing and weeping throughout the day, I have been smiling," Paul said in a Jan. 2 video. "He's in heaven now and he's up to amazing things."
