It was moving day at the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton, and James Wade and Jonny Clayton bit the dust as three players booked their last 16 places in Sunday’s afternoon session at WV Active.
Ricky Evans booked a last 16 place in the Midlands, as he took out 170, and he eventually had to settle for a nervy 5-4 win against Stefan Bellmont to back up his opening day win against Gerwyn Price in Group D.
Gerwyn Price did what he had to do against good friend James Wade, as he raced to a 5-0 win averaging over 100 and pinning five of six attempts at double. That result meant that James Wade hit the exit door.

Danny Noppert joined Evans in the last 16, as a slender 5-4 win against Cam Crabtree secured progress for ‘The Freeze’ in Group H.
Noppert’s win eliminated Jonny Clayton, with the Welshman suffering a second straight defeat in the competition, as Lukas Wenig bagged his first win in Wolverhampton, taking a deserved 5-3 win in Group H.
Josh Rock produced a professional display, rocketing past Lisa Ashton in a whitewash win in their Group F encounter.
Power scoring was on show between European Champion Gian van Veen and Wessel Nijman, but the doubles were a difficulty for both, which made for a great contest as van Veen took a 5-3 win with a 94 finish sealing maximum points.

Chris Dobey raced into the last 16, taking a second straight 5-1 win, ending his contest with Damon Heta with a 129 finish to clinch qualification.
The day started with defeat for Martin Lukeman, as the 2024 finalist was beaten by Jurjen van der Velde, 5-4, and by the end of the day, it confirmed his exit.
The Dutchman took out 110 and 84 in the first two legs of the contest, but missed six darts at double for a 3-0 advantage, and checkouts of 89 and 70 levelled the match for ‘Smash’. Lukeman would watch van der Velde miss five match darts as he took the clash the distance, where Lukeman missed a dart at double 16 to allow van der Velde to finish 64 for a nervy two points.
The remaining eight ties of the second round of group matches take place on Sunday evening.
