Paul Scholes has expressed concern over Manchester United transfer target Antoine Semenyo, suggesting that the Ghanaian international may not fit into the current team at Old Trafford.
Currently at Bournemouth, Semenyo has seen his stock rise considerably at the club and taken the Premier League by storm this season. While the Cherries sit in the bottom half of the table, Semenyo sits joint-third in the scoring chart with eight goals.
Manchester United have had Semenyo on their radar since the start of the year, but the latest report claims the Red Devils will go all out to sign the forward in January.
During a recent episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes initially mentioned Arsenal’s Declan Rice as the kind of player his former side needs.
However, when pressed for a more realistic signing, he mentioned Bournemouth’s Semenyo before suggesting that the player may face competition for places with players like Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Amad Diallo, and Benjamin Sesko already occupying the attacking department.
“I’d say Semenyo. Although, where does he play for Man Utd? As a wing-back? He’s more of an attacking player I just don’t see where he fits into that with Mbeumo, Cunha, Diallo, Sesko. I think it’s more doable (for United),” he said.In addition to Manchester United, reports have also linked Semenyo to Manchester City. However, Scholes ruled out a possible move to City, naming Liverpool as his other option. He continued:
“A lot of people have talked about him going to City I don’t see him as a City player, I just don’t. I think Liverpool might come for him with those injuries.”Semenyo’s current deal with Bournemouth will run out in 2030, thanks to a new contract signed in July. His current market value is €65 million, according to Transfermarkt.
