Three classifications in Mississippi will begin its best-of-three softball championship finals on Tuesday.
The opening day of the Mississippi High School Activities Association high school softball championship finals takes place with three games. All series will be held on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
Class 3A starts off the triple header with its best-of-three series involving Booneville and Clarke Enterprise.
Booneville enters the finals at 28-3. The Blue Devils were severely challenged in their first postseason game, needing nine innings to defeat Mooreville 3-2, but since then, they have generally dominated. In their semifinal series, the Blue Devils swept Nettleton, 3-0 and 5-2.
Clarke Enterprise comes in at 28-11. The Bulldogs took two of three games in their quarterfinal round against St. Patrick. They also went three games in the semifinals against West Marion before grabbing a 3-0 win in the decisive Game 3.
Tuesday’s second game is the Class 6A final between Neshoba Central and George County.
Neshoba Central enters its final at 24-9. The Rockets survived a best-of-three quarterfinal against Grenada; then in the semifinals against South Panola, rallied from a Game 1 loss to take the next two, 7-6 and 7-2.
On the season, the Rockets have scored 300 runs. In contrast, George County has given up just 43 runs.
The Rebels come in at 32-2, with their only two defeats coming to East Central, which is in the 5A final, and Hernando, which is in the 7A final.
George County, which is batting .312 as a team, had two tough games in its semifinal series against Hancock, but came away winners in both games, 3-2 and 1-0.
The participants in the 5A final wasn’t set until Monday night, as two Game 3 semifinal series took place. In the end, it was East Central of Moss Point and Lafayette of Oxford that came away victorious.
East Central (29-7) held off Vancleave, 3-2, to win its 5A semifinal on Monday. The Hornets also took two of three in their second-round playoff against North Pike.
As for Lafayette (27-8), it was all Commodores in their Game 3 semifinal as they rolled past New Hope, 13-0.
Championship series games continue through Saturday at USM.

The first pitch for Game 1 of the 3A finals between Booneville and Clarke Enterprise will be at noon CT on Tuesday. Game 1 of the 6A final between Neshoba Central and George County will be at 2:15 p.m. CT Tuesday, and Game 1 of the 5A final between East Central and Lafayette will be at 4:30 p.m. CT Tuesday. All three games will be at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
