Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders had good meeting with AFC playoff team that could use a QB

Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders famously bombed his pre-draft meeting with New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll. On Monday, USA Today’s Chris Bumbaca revealed that Sanders had a positive meeting with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin before the draft.

“And once there is a limited pool (of teams to draft Sanders), Brugler said, different teams don’t jump in the water because they haven’t done the due diligence on a prospect such as Sanders, because he’s a quarterback. For example, the Philadelphia Eagles aren’t doing a lengthy combine interview or private workout with Sanders,” Bumbaca wrote.

“That’s why many in the league thought he’d end up with the Steelers, Brugler said, as his meeting with head coach Mike Tomlin had gone well, per multiple reports.”

As Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer said during a “Zolak and Bertrand” appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub, Sanders was frustrated when he realized Daboll was intentionally tricking him up in their meeting.

“The Giants one … they give players an install, and there are mistakes intentionally put in the install,” Breer said. “He didn't catch them and got called on it, and it didn't go well after that ... He was pissed that they did that to him.”

Breer later told a story that explains why Sanders fell to the fifth round of the draft.

“He throws a bad interception. It was a deep throw early in the game. They go in the meeting, they show the interception and they say, ‘What happened here?’ (Sanders responds,) ‘Well, I like to get into a rhythm earlier in the game,’” Breer said.

“They get into it over that, and his conclusion is, ‘Well, maybe I'm not a fit for you…’ The person who told me that story was like, 'I've never heard that before.' It was in a combine interview when you're just going from team to team trying to put your best foot forward.”

The Steelers meeting won’t get the shine the Giants one did, but it is curious that Pittsburgh still passed on Sanders three times despite Tomlin liking the “Grown QB."

For what it's worth, the Steelers may still need a quarterback. Perhaps if Mason Rudolph and Will Howard work out, Sanders could get a look from a brain trust that positively assessed him.
