Joining the Nine Mortal Ways sect in Where Winds Meet is one of the more entertaining and chaotic paths you can take in the game. Unlike the nobler sects, this group leans into deception, trickery, and mischief, offering playful mechanics, unique martial arts, and a very different flavor of progression.
That said, here’s how to unlock the Nine Mortal Ways sect in Where Winds Meet.
How to join the Nine Mortal Ways sect in Where Winds Meet
Joining Nine Mortal Ways is intentionally disguised, because that’s the whole point. You’re made to believe you’re joining the Well of Heaven Sect, but the person guiding you turns out to be a fraud working for Nine Mortal Ways.

1)Travel to Harvestfall Village in west Qinghe
Your journey starts in Harvestfall Village, located on the western side of Qinghe. Look for San Qian, the waiter who always seems to know what’s happening behind the scenes.
2) Pay San Qian a small bribe
Speak with him and pay a cheap bribe.
- After the bribe, he explains that a Well of Heaven elder recently passed through town.
- This elder has set up camp near an elm tree at the top of the village.
The setup looks straightforward, but this is where the trick begins.
3) Meet the elder near the elm tree
Go up to the top of the village and meet the supposed elder. He agrees to let you join the Well of Heaven Sect, but only if you complete Steal a pile of jewelry from his old friend task.
This is your first hint that something is off. Stealing valuables for a sect devoted to Heroic Righteousness makes no sense. But play along.
4) Visit the elder’s old friend and use Wind Sense
Make your way to the target NPC.
- Hold the right-stick to activate Wind Sense.
- Look through his inventory and select 'Large Pile of Jewelry.'
- Choose the 'request' option.
This NPC is actually the real Well of Heaven elder. The man who sent you was the fake. But regardless, you’ll successfully seize the jewelry.
5) Return to the fake elder and hand over the jewels
Bring the jewelry back to the first elder. This is when the twist is revealed:
- He confesses that he tricked you.
- He’s not a Well of Heaven master at all.
- He’s a member of Nine Mortal Ways, and now you’ve unknowingly assisted them.
At this point, you get a choice:
- Reject the deception and return to the real elder to join the Well of Heaven Sect, or
- Embrace the trickery and officially join Nine Mortal Ways.
If you choose Nine Mortal Ways sect in Where Winds Meet, you receive:
- Mortal Rope Dart (a melee DPS martial art)
- Access to their unique activities and ranking system

What is the Nine Mortal Ways sect in Where Winds Meet?
Nine Mortal Ways sect in Where Winds Meet is one of several Sects you can join in the game. Like the others, it grants:
- Exclusive Martial Arts
- Unique Weapons
- Specialized Shops
- A progression path tied to sect-specific actions
The twist is that this sect doesn’t reward heroism or discipline. Instead, it celebrates misdirection, pranks, and social chaos. Members earn reputation through fake messages, bluffing in card games, tricking NPCs, and even wearing disguises.
If your character concept leans toward the 'trickster wandering the martial world,' this is the sect that fits the tone perfectly.
