Aureliax is the latest tame in Ark Survival Ascended, released alongside the Lost Colony DLC expansion. It’s a telekinetic dragon that looks like something from Chinese mythology. Not only is the tame visually appealing, but it’s also quite handy, as it can heal and protect allies. However, the taming process for this dragon is also unique and can be tricky.

This guide will explain everything you need to know about taming and using Aureliax in ARK Survival Ascended. Note that you need to have access to the Lost Colony expansion.

The Aureliax spawns across high-altitude zones on the Lost Colony map, Arat Prime. While the entire map is covered in snow, these dragons usually roam around the elevated areas. You may find them loathing around in circles across mountains.

They aren’t difficult to spot, considering their size, so we recommend taking a flying tame across medium altitude while searching for Aureliax. Do note that Aureliax is a neutral tame and will not attack you when approached.

To tame Aureliax in ARK Survival Ascended, you’ll need to give it a gift, which the dragon itself will choose. It can be anything from rare resources to weapons, which means preparing beforehand can be difficult until there’s an official/unofficial list of gifts.

Aureliax aren’t hostile entities and will prompt you to ride when approached. At this point, it will break its spinning motion and start wandering around, and show you another prompt to give the gift. If you don’t have one, dismount and return with the item.

Once you gift the Aureliax what it wants, it will turn into a massive egg and start descending to the ground. At this point, you’re in phase two of the taming process. Following that, you need to survive multiple waves of enemies. As soon as the Aureliax egg is on the ground, other creatures will start spawning.

Here's what you need to know about the defense phase:

  • There are a total of five enemy waves.
  • The enemies will target you rather than the egg.
  • The egg also has HP, so avoid fighting close to it.
  • You can check the wave count on the egg.

Another thing to note is that during the defense phase, the egg will send a beam of light into the sky, which is visible across the map. If you’re in a PvP server, there’s a good chance other players will also make their way to you and try to destroy the egg.

After completing the defense, you’ll be able to claim a fertilized Aureliax egg, which you can hatch to get the tame. To do so, head back to your base and start setting up Air Conditioners. The egg needs a cold temperature to incubate, so drop it beside the air-con. The number depends on the server, but make sure to have at least four or five set up.

Once the process is complete, you’ll get a Baby Aureliax. The maturity process is the same as other tames. All you need to do is take a walk, feed your dragon regular meat, and wait for it to grow up. You’ll also need a saddle to ride the dragon around, and this is where it can get tricky.

The sadded for Aureliax is at level 85 and requires 40 engram points. After unlocking, you’ll be able to ride your newly tamed dragon around the map.

As mentioned, the Aureliax boasts some powerful abilities. One of the notable abilities for the dragon is the stance that allows you to switch between Ice and Electric damage types. During the process, it will also change the color of your dragon. Additionally, the Aureliax can also pick up multiple creatures from the ground.

Here are all of Aureliax's abilities and their default PC controls:

  • Last Out: This is Aureliax's basic attack, in which it uses its bite and claw sweep to deal damage to the target.
  • Grab: As many other tames, the Aureliax can also grab multiple things from the ground. Use left click to hold items or creatures with front claws and R for the hind claws.
  • Ice Pillar: Hold LCTRL and left-click to spawn an Ice Pillar on the ground. The attack deals a large amount of AoE damage, but is only usable on grounded enemies.
  • Stace: Press C to switch between different elements. The attacks you use will also alternate between the stances.
  • Breath: Hold the basic attack to charge and fire a short-range breath attack.
  • Detonate Trail: While being chased during flight, you can hold LCTRL and C to leave behind a detonating trail.
  • Sky Gate: If you feel like going fast, hold LCTRL and right-click to form a circular Sky Gate. Passing through it will grant you a massive speed boost.
