Icarus is a massive open-world survival crafting adventure that constantly pushes players to progress and unlock new tools and progression rewards to take on more dangerous biomes. This requires levelling up, but that can take some time, especially for newcomers to the experience.
This guide explains all there is to know about levelling fast in Icarus. Here are the details.

Best way to level up fast in Icarus
Hunting animals like wolves grants the most XP in the quickest time frame in the game (Image via RocketWerkz)The quickest way to gain XP in the game is to hunt dangerous wild animals. This will not be viable during the early hours of open-world exploration, so we recommend grinding a bit and reaching about level 10. This should come easily as players will gather resources around their map, unlock new items from the Tech Tree, and find a suitable region to build their base.
That said, it is best to focus on unlocking the Stone Knife and Wood Bow (and arrows) as fast as possible from the Tech Tree. Once done, players can head to the Forest biome (or select it as their starting spawn point when making a new character) to hunt for wolves.
For increased XP gain, players can play on Hard difficulty, which offers 25% extra experience for all activities but also makes foes stronger. Some other ways to get XP fast are as follows:
- Engage in crafting: Crafting items nets XP, so players can destroy them to regain half the materials and repeat this process. It is cheapest to do with wood items.
- Complete missions from the Short Range Radio: Unlocked from the Tech Tree, this interactable board allows undertaking different missions to earn XP, the most lucrative of which involves hunting Crazed Animals.
- Consume food to boost XP gain: A variety of food items can be crafted using gathered resources like meat to make dishes that can increase earned XP.
Alternatively, if players have access to the Styx DLC expansion, they can takeon the first mission titled "Omphalos Expedition", which sees them clear areas of enemies and put down beacons around a map. Instead of putting down the first beacon, we recommend farming the Komodo Dragons that spawn infinitely, for big XP gain, as much as players like.
