The Sundered Night is a two-handed unique weapon in Diablo 4 designed specifically for the Paladin class. This weapon rolls with the best defense stats compared to any other Paladin weapon, with 90% damage reduction from blocked attacks. Beyond that, it synergizes well with Aura Skills of the Paladin and grants ranks to Anointing, making it extremely valuable in group gameplay.
In this guide, we will break down the stats, unique effects, and how you can acquire the Sundered Night unique weapon in Diablo 4.
Diablo 4: What is the Sundered Night?
The Sundered Night is an ancestral unique two-handed axe tied to the newly introduced Paladin class. Unlike other two-handed weapons of the class, it grants a ton of defensive stats.

Additionally, ranks to the Anointing passive increase the amount of healing received by your allies, giving the Paladin a solid healer/support role in combat.
Unique effects of the Sundered Night
- Casting an Aura Skill triggers a Consecration beneath you.
- You gain 90 - 180% Aura Potency while standing in Consecration.
Using Aura skills (like Fanaticism Aura, Defiance Aura, and Holy Light Aura) automatically triggers a Consecration, which grants you healing and increases damage output. While standing inside the Consecration ring, the potency of Aura skills is increased up to 180%. This unique weapon is perfect for builds revolving around healing abilities.

How to get the Sundered Night in Diablo 4
Like most unique items in Diablo 4, the Sundered Night can drop from multiple sources in the game. Some of these sources have a slightly higher drop rate than the rest. Here are all the drop sources of the Sundered Night:
Boss farming
Target farming bosses is the best way of farming specific items in Diablo 4. The Sundered Night is tied to the loot pool of Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint.
1) Grigoire
Geigoire the Galvanic Saint can be found in the Dry Steppes region (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)- Location: Hall of the Penitent dungeon, Dry Steppes
- Difficulty: Torment
- Boss hoard key: 12x Living Steel
- Where to get boss hoard keys: Tortured Gift of Mysteries (in Helltides using 250 Aberrant Cinders), Kurast Undercity (using the Tribute of Titans), and Astaroth (in the Escalating Nightmares)
Farm Grigoire repeatedly to increase the chance of yielding the Sundered Night unique two-handed axe.

Nightmare Dungeon
Unique items like the Sundered Night can drop from any random enemy and loot chest in the open world of Diablo 4. This drop rate can be drastically increased when you are farming areas with high enemy density, like the Nightmare Dungeons.
The reward you get upon completing the dungeon can also drop a random unique item. So include these dungeons in between boss runs for a well-optimized gear farming experience.

World events and world bosses
Both world bosses and world events (like Gathering Legions and Helltide events) have a slightly better drop rate of unique items like the Sundered Night unique axe. Among them, only Helltide events are known for often dropping unique items.
These Helltide events take place every hour in the game, allowing players to slay monsters and farm Aberrant Cinders from their corpses. These Aberrant Cinders can then be used to open reward chests that have the best chance of yielding two-handed weapons like the Tortured Gift of Heavy Weaponry (costs 150 Aberrant Cinders) and the Tortured Gift of Mystery (costs 250 Aberrant Cinders).

Gamble for two-handed weapons using Obols
You can gather Obols from random events and explore the map of Diablo 4. Once you have gathered enough, you can spend 100 Obols (per roll) to gamble for two-handed weapons at the Purveyor of Curiosities. While it offers a fun method of acquiring random gear, it is extremely unreliable since the item rarity of these items varies from magic to unique.
