38-year-old WWE star has become like Brock Lesnar, says Mark Henry

Brock Lesnar is considered one of the most dominant and intimidating WWE Superstars in history. WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry believes a current 38-year-old star has turned into the company's next Lesnar.

At Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13, Gunther defeated John Cena via submission and sent him to retirement. The victory turned The Ring General into the biggest heel in pro wrestling, which WWE seems to be ready to capitalize on.

Speaking on the APTER CHAT with Bill Apter, The World's Strongest Man compared Gunther to Brock Lesnar, but not in terms of physical skills and attributes.

Mark Henry thinks the two-time World Heavyweight Champion has the same momentum as The Beast when he slayed The Undertaker's streak more than a decade ago.

"I like what happened because it gave Gunther a weapon. He can say that I made John Cena quit, and (Cena) built another guy for the next 10 years just like Brock Lesnar got a lift when he broke the streak," Henry said.

While WWE nearly fumbled Brock Lesnar after he was squashed by Bill Goldberg at Survivor Series 2016, they corrected it for the rest of the decade. Lesnar was a nearly unstoppable monster that stars like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre had to conquer.

Gunther has set his eyes on AJ Styles and reigning World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, though it's unclear what's next for him in 2026.

Gunther open to facing Brock Lesnar

There were rumors that Gunther vs. Brock Lesnar was planned for WrestleMania 40 before an issue involving The Beast arose in January 2024. Speaking to The Daily Mail last year, The Ring General revealed that he's open to facing Lesnar in a future WrestleMania match.

"I always saw myself in my future to be in a similar position to him, and to be that you’ve got to get in the ring with that guy. We’ll see if there’s a chance for it to happen again. I’m more than up for it. How the situation is exactly right now, I’m really not that informed about it, to be honest. I think we had that one face off in the Royal Rumble, the reaction that was there and that was a confirmation for me," Gunther said.

With Lesnar back in WWE and Gunther having a lot of momentum, it wouldn't be surprising if they clash at WrestleMania 42 or even at SummerSlam 2026.
