It's one of those things you wonder, sitting on your couch, watching an MLB game.
Take, maybe, a World Series game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays.
They're throwing a lot of baseballs out of play, aren't they? How many of those do they have?
You could spend a whole game counting, and you'd be counting pretty high.
Any pitch in the dirt, gone. Any ball in play, gone. Foul balls into the seats, or home runs, of course gone.
You pretty much have to get a pitch into the catcher's glove for it to get tossed back to the pitcher.
So, about that number.

How many baseballs are used in an MLB game?
It's estimated that more than 100 baseballs are used in a single Major League Baseball game.
The Athletic did a study a few years ago that put the estimated range at between 96 and 120.
Now that's your average game.
Game 3 of the 2025 World Series, which went 18 innings? Safe to say that number is doubled to more than 200 baseballs for a single game.
Obviously, MLB has more than enough baseballs in the ballpark at any time. It's still a lot.
And you never know which one is going to be the ball that creates a moment that lasts a lifetime.
