Former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy couldn't get a grasp of Caleb Williams' name during a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show." The veteran coach starred in a funny moment on the ESPN show, trying to defend Williams against criticism, but he turned out to be the one roasted.

“Frankly, I wouldn’t be too hard on Kalib because he’s different," McCarthy said, prompting McAfee to ask who he was talking about. "Who?” McAfee asked.

"Kalib Williams," McCarthy said again.

“It’s Caleb! Jesus Christ, you’re nowhere near it!” McAfee said.

Fans reacted to the exchange on social media, with many going after McCarthy over this mistake.

"Dawg how do you mess that up," one fan said.

"Holy obese," another fan said. "Of all the names of NFL players. Caleb trips you up? Caleb?" another fan questioned.

Others called him out for not knowing this info despite being an NFL coach until last season.

"This dude is so out of the loop he’s only read Caleb Williams name. He has not watched a single NFL broadcast since being out of the league. This dude is a dinosaur," one fan said. "He wanted the bears job and didn’t know who Caleb is?" another fan questioned. "lol my boy a packer course he giving shade with the mispronouncing of his name," another fan said.

Mike McCarthy was on the Chicago Bears' radar to take over Thomas Brown after a tumultuous 2024 season. He exited the Cowboys after five years, in which he posted a 49-35 record. The Cowboys replaced him with Brian Schottenheimer, while McCarthy took on a different role.

He can still return to the sideline, as recent reports suggest he is a top candidate for one head-coaching vacancy.

Mike McCarthy considered a candidate to coach the Tennessee Titans

Connor Orr of Sports Illustrated reported on Thursday that Mike McCarthy could take over the Tennessee Titans, as they want somebody who can develop Cam Ward.

"McCarthy, 62, is viewed by some as an early front-runner for the Titans’ vacancy given his experience at the quarterback position and the Titans needing to maximize 2025 No. 1 pick Cam Ward," Orr wrote. "Though there are some conflicting opinions emerging that Tennessee may value a younger voice in the building."

The Titans showed potential this season, but at 2-11, it is clear they have a lot of work to do to return to contention.
