Canada needed that Cyle Larin goal on Friday.
With it came a draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina to open the Canadian side's action at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and that means a point on the board in the Group B standings for Canada.
They'll still play two more group matches, first against Qatar and then against Switzerland.
The top-two sides in every group advance to the knockout stages automatically, and then the eight-best third-place teams (out of 12 groups) move on, as well.

How Canada's draw matters for Group B advancement
A point is better than none in this matchup with Bosnia for Canada.
The group will be expected to all win over Qatar, so Canada will have to take care of that business in their next match to earn all 3 of those points.
Observers would expect Switzerland and Bosnia to get 3 points apiece off of Qatar, as well, so if that indeed holds firm for all three, it's the results in the other matches that matter.
Canada would likely get through as a third-place team, at minimum, with 4 points. And if the Canadians could then swipe a point off of Switzerland (or more), they'd have a chance to be in the top-two of the group.

Switzerland plays Qatar in the other opening match of the Group B action, which will bring the standings more into focus.
A loss on Friday would've been devastating, because it would've pushed Canada into a situation where it potentially would've needed a win over Switzerland in its final group stage game to advance.
The draw, though, keeps Canada very much alive.
