The Toronto Blue Jays enjoyed an excellent 2025 season. After winning their division, the AL East, for the first time since 2015, they proceeded to win the pennant for the first time since 1993.

Unfortunately for the Jays, the season ultimately ended in heartbreak, as they lost to the LA Dodgers in a World Series showdown that went all the way down to the wire.

As they look to reset and go one better next season, it appears Toronto's coaching staff is set to undergo significant change, as bench coach Don Mattingly announced that he will be parting ways with the organization on Monday.

Popular baseball content page "Talkin' Baseball" informed fans of the development via an Instagram post.

"Don Mattingly is leaving the Blue Jays after their World Series run, but he is not planning to retire" the post read

Reacting to the news, several fans took shots at Toronto, claiming the Yankees legend was choosing to leave because he did not believe in their chances of replicating the success of 2025.

"He realized the Blue Jays have no hope, come back to the Yankees" a fan wrote "Donnie knows Blue Jays ain't making it back" another fan commented

Having heartbreakingly missed out on glory with the Blue Jays, Don Mattingly's search for his first ring continues

Don Mattingly, a first-baseman in his playing days, made his big league debut back in September 1982, going on to spend his entire playing career with the New York Yankees.

He earned himself several notable accolades in that time, such as six All-Star selections, an AL MVP award, nine Gold Gloves and three Silver Sluggers. However, he never experienced playing in the World Series.

Even after retiring as a player in 1995, Mattingly has continued his search for World Series glory through coaching and managerial roles. He did finally make it to the Fall Classic with Toronto in 2025, but after things heartbreakingly fell apart right at the last, Mattingly's search for his first ring continues.
