Guardians give a pitcher to the White Sox after failed experiment

56 minutes ago 3

The Cleveland Guardians gave a chance to a talented young pitcher, Peyton Pallette.

It didn't work out, though, and now Pallette is going back to the Chicago White Sox.

The Guardians took Pallette in the Rule 5 Draft, which means to stay with Cleveland's organization, he has to remain on the MLB roster all season.

They decided they couldn't do that anymore, and the Guardians offered Pallette back to Chicago, as they are required to.

The White Sox took Pallette back, and that's that.

MORE: MLB had four walk-off home runs in the same night

The right-handed Pallette was originally a second-round pick by the White Sox in the 2022 MLB Draft out of the University of Arkansas.

In his time with the Guardians, he pitched 16 games (20.2 innings) and had a 5.23 ERA. He struck out 22 guys in that time, but he walked 16 players, a total that was just going to be tough to deal with as the season went along.

Before being chosen in the Rule 5 Draft, Pallette split the 2025 season between Double-A Birmingham (3.43 ERA) and Triple-A Charlotte (4.36 ERA).

He has a career minor league strikeouts per nine ratio of 10.7, and walks per nine of 4.2.

If he eventually returns to the majors, his goal will be to have a walk rate more like that than the 7.0 he had with the Guardians.

Pallette still has time to grow, and now he's gotten a taste of the majors with Cleveland, but the Guardians have let him return to his original AL Central home.
