Grant Morrison to continue ’90s Vertigo comic, SEBASTIAN O

Grant Morrison is writing a new adventure for their Sebastian O comic, originally published by Vertigo in 1993, and is re-teaming with co-creator Steve Yeowell to do so, the writer announced Tuesday in their newsletter.

Morrison made the announcement in the larger context of saying their passion for writing comics had been reinvigorated by their work on the Batman/Deadpool crossover.

“I thought I’d take a swing at one of those late career renaissances I hear about!” Morrison wrote.

The continuation of Sebastian O seems likely to be part of DC Comics own reinvigorated Vertigo imprint, which rolled out a slate of 10 new comics this month at New York Comic Con. It would join 100 Bullets as the second past Vertigo title to continue in this new era.

For the uninitiated, Sebastian O was a three-issue miniseries that ran early on in Vertigo’s run. I’m a big fan of the book myself, and I’ve always sort of listlessly wondered why there wasn’t more than a lone story arc. I also just learned from the Wikipedia a few moments ago that it was initially commissioned to be part of Disney’s Touchmark imprint, which was cancelled in its proposal phase. It then made the jump to Vertigo.

In Morrison’s announcement, they alluded to some other new comics on the way as well, writing, “A couple of horror things I mentioned before – The Hangman’s Song and Vaster Than Empires. Worlds Collide, with director and Beats of War creator Etienne Kubwabo, has been delayed from this year to the end of 2026, but it’s finally back on schedule.”
