Giants sign WR days after cutting him

The New York Giants continue to confuse a lot of people.

This time, it is wide receiver Lil'jordan Humphrey. The veteran has been around the NFL with a number of teams. He began his career with the New Orleans Saints, then played with the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.

Humphrey's last two seasons were in Denver as he reunited with Sean Payton, who was his head coach in New Orleans.

In the offseason, the Giants signed Humphrey to a one-year deal in March. But, on May 9, the Giants released Humphrey

Now, days later, the Giants have re-signed him in an exhausting turn of events for the wide receiver. Giants insider Art Stapleton revealed the news early on Monday.

"Giants are re-signing WR Lil’ Jordan Humphrey, per sources. Was released over the weekend for a roster spot for rookie camp. He is a vested veteran and not subject to waivers."

So, here's a timeline:

  • Jan. 5: Humphrey had two catches in the Broncos final regular-season game
  • March: Signed with Giants
  • May 9: Released by Giants
  • May 12: Re-signed by Giants

As Stapleton wrote, it appears Humphrey was released to clear a roster spot for rookie camp, and they brought him right back after rookie minicamp came to an end.

It must be tiring for both sides in this circus, but now Humphrey is back with his one-year, veteran minimum deal and looking to carve out a role with this new-look Giants offense with Russell Wilson under center.
