Giants predicted to sign $31 million All-Star, former Cy Young candidate to create 1-2-3 punch with Logan Webb, Robbie Ray

The San Francisco Giants have made some big moves to upgrade their offense in the last year, signing Willy Adames and trading for Rafael Devers. Now, they need to focus on getting some more depth for their pitching.

It seems like they missed out on some big fish aces, but there are still some under-the-radar picks that could help them out. Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes one of those picks is Toronto Blue Jays All-Star starting pitcher Chris Bassitt.

“The San Francisco Giants entered the offseason as a popular sleeper pick to sign Tucker, Cody Bellinger, Tatsuya Imai and several of MLB's top free agents. Those expectations were misplaced, though, as Buster Posey appears to be operating with his hands tied by ownership. All the same, San Francisco could use a bit of rotation depth behind Logan Webb and Robbie Ray. Injuries have too often left the Giants' starting pitching in a state of disarray in recent years. The goal should be to find, at least, a durable No. 3 or No. 4 starter. Enter Chris Bassitt.,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Bassitt posted an 11-9 record, a 3.96 ERA, 166 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.327 over 170 innings pitched. He was a solid middle-of-the-rotation guy for the Jays, and could do the same for the Giants.

Also, he could be gotten for cheap. He’s projected to receive a two-year, $31 million deal, which works as the Giants have already handed out huge paychecks to their star hitters. On top of that, Bassitt could see a bounce-back season playing in a pitcher-friendly park like Oracle.

Hopefully, San Francisco gets on this, so they can at least say they did something this offseason.
