After deciding to make Tony Vitello their head coach, the San Francisco Giants signaled that they want to compete for a World Series in the near future.
Unfortunately for the Giants, there are many ways they'll have to figure that out, as the team hasn’t been great at points over the past few seasons.
A lot of that is due to the lack of success the Giants' prospects have found, as some were even highly regarded, including Marco Luciano.
When Luciano made his debut in 2023, the hope and expectation was for him to be one of the better players in the league. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old has struggled a ton at the big league level, earning just 115 at-bats with 25 hits.
He owns a .590 OPS and has yet to hit a home run.
Why Luciano could be traded
Due to some of his struggles, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes he could be a trade candidate, stating that Willy Adames isn't leaving shortstop anytime soon, which could leave him without a position.
“Luciano was one of the Giants' top prospects for many moons. After cups of coffee in the majors in both 2023 and 2024, though, he wasn't even a September call-up this time around. And with Willy Adames not going anywhere any time soon, his path to playing time in San Francisco isn't looking promising. Tough to say what Luciano's trade value is these days, but it's not tough to say the Giants need pitching,” he wrote.
While moving on from Luciano would see them cutting ties with a player they could’ve gotten a lot more for a few years ago, it also might not be the worst idea if the Giants don't have a place for him to play.
