The New York Giants look totally different than they did at this time last season, and it's in a good way. With John Harbaugh at the helm, this team has gone through a total makeover.
Now, Harbaugh is getting ready to start his first season with the Giants. It's certainly an exciting time for a franchise that hasn't had a winning season in too long. Last year's 4-13 record just doesn't cut it.
But, could the Giants make another blockbuster roster change before September rolls around? It's possible.
In a piece for ESPN, Seth Walder discusses some trade options that are still remaining for NFL teams.
Giants urged to say farewell to edge-rush mainstay
In the feature, Walder has the Giants trading edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux to the New England Patriots. The Patriots get Thibodeaux and a 2027 fifth-round pick, while the Giants receive a 2027 third-round pick.
Thibodeaux is playing on the fifth-year option of his four-year, $31.3 million rookie contract with the team. He'll be a free agent at the end of this coming season. The Giants are pretty solid on edge-rusher right now, so this would be the time to make a trade.
"While there was an argument for having him as a third edge rusher behind Brian Burns and Abdul Carter in the past, New York now also has first-round pick Arvell Reese, who plays linebacker and edge," Walder states in the piece. "To keep Thibodeaux around at this price point to potentially be the team's No. 4 edge rusher isn't ideal."
Even if it's not the Patriots, Walder urges the Giants to find a trade partner who needs an edge, has the cap room to take on Thibodeaux's 2026 contract and "is an immediate contender, given his pending free agent status."
This deal is a bit modest, and the Giants could get more for their solid edge-rusher. But, Walder notes that it's "all about the contract, as Thibodeaux has only one year left on his deal and is getting paid pretty close to what he would probably make on the open market."
